Homemade Board

I found a long strip of unfinished wood in the rafters of our garage. I told my dad I wanted to see if we could make a skateboard out of it. My dad had some tools and I had an idea for the shape of the board.

First we started out with some plans:

We drew on the wood where we wanted to cut. We used a jigsaw and then an electric sander to finish the edges. After we finished the shape, we spray painted the design on it.

This is how it turned out:

It rides pretty smooth for a homemade board! I can even ride it to school.

Skate Park Review: Palm Springs, CA

When most people think of Palm Springs, this is what they picture:

But when we go to Palm Springs, we see this instead!

If you're in Palm Springs, you should definitely hit this skate park! This is a skate park that is really meant to be shredded up.

POSITIVES: This skate park has lots of space and a huge variety of places to do tricks, including ramps, verts, boxes, rails and pools.

There are really big slopes for gaining speed

The people who skated there were really nice too. They don't just stand in the middle of pools not doing anything. If you ask them to move, they move until you have gone.

NEGATIVES:  Palm Springs gets really hot! Every 10 minutes you have to take a break and sit in the shade and drink water so you don't get a sunburn and dehydrated. Aside from this, the Palm Springs skate park is one of the best I've been to, besides the Verdugo skate park, the one I usually go to.

WHO WOULD LIKE IT?:  I don't think it would be ideal for beginning beginners because there aren't really very many easy places to skate. People who like to do all different types of skating in one park would like it here.

Skating in P.E.

My P.E. teacher is so cool. Part of our warm-up is to run 2 laps on the blacktop. My friend Luke and I asked her if we could skate the laps instead of run them. She said it was okay with her if it was okay with the principal, who said yes too. So today in P.E. Luke and I got to skate 2 laps on school campus!

Louie Lopez at The Berrics

We've been watching Louie Lopez for quite a while, and he never ceases to amaze us. This next video shows him at The Berrics (a private skate park for pros in Downtown Los Angeles) doing a One-Footed Smith Grind. He's so smooth and makes everything look easy!

Invisible RIDER video

In the awesome Yeah Right video, which is one of our personal faves, there was a clip with invisible skateboards. This video keeps the board and shoes, but not the rider! It looks amazing. I have no idea how they made it, but it could easily be an ad for Adidas shoes.

Skate Park Review: Monrovia & Duarte, CA

These are two good skate parks right next to each other that can be visited in the same day. They are both located right off the 210 Fwy and easy to find. Click here and here for addresses of both.

Monrovia

Positives: The Monrovia skate park has both vert and street. Duarte has more vert. What's good about these parks is that they aren't super advanced, but they aren't super easy either. They are both good for doing tricks. These are two decent skate parks within three minutes of each other! Plus, they are both free.

Negatives: The only negative is that because they are unstaffed, people come with their bikes, scooters, RC cars, etc. and it can get a little chaotic. Like in this picture, taken at Duarte:

Slow Mo Video

Everything is better in slow motion. Especially skate videos. Enjoy.
